Kenya Lionesses have booked their place in the Youth Olympics final after overcoming Madagascar 15-5 in their semi-final encounter at CID Stadium.
The youngsters will now face Australia in the final, setting up a repeat of their pool-stage meeting. The much-anticipated clash is scheduled to kick off at 8:03 pm East African Time.
Evarlyne Afande opened the scoring for Kenya, crossing over for the Lionesses’ first try to give them an early 5-0 lead.
Kenya extended their advantage through a beautifully executed move off the scrum, with Mitchel Abuga beating her markers on the right wing to touch down and make it 10-0 at the break.
Madagascar came back stronger in the second half, managing an unconverted try to reduce the deficit to 10-5 and give themselves hope of a comeback.
However, Abuga had the final say, dashing Madagascar’s hopes with her second try of the match.
Following a scrum inside the Makis’ five-metre zone, the winger burst through to score in the left corner and seal a 15-5 victory for Kenya.
The Lionesses will now turn their attention to Australia as they seek to cap their Youth Olympics campaign with gold.
