Dhaif Husain Dhaif hits the winning shot with three seconds remaining as Sitra secure their first victory of the 2026-27 season
Sitra secured their first victory of the 2026-27 Zain Bahrain Basketball League season on Tuesday, edging Nuwaidrat 83-82 at Umm Al Hassam Sports Hall thanks to a last-second three-pointer from Dhaif Husain Dhaif.
Hussein Al Jaziri's side entered the fourth round following three consecutive defeats but ended their losing run after overturning a four-point deficit in the final 85 seconds, with Dhaif striking from beyond the arc with just three seconds remaining.
Nuwaidrat had moved 82-78 ahead through a three-pointer from Abbas Jameel Albasri before a shot-clock violation handed possession back to Sitra. Mahdi Abdulameer Isa reduced the gap with a lay-up, and Lamar Mallory later set up Dhaif for the winning basket after Nuwaidrat missed a three-point attempt.
Mallory led Sitra with 23 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists, completing a double-double while playing almost the entire match. Ali Jawad Salman contributed 14 points, while Salman Ahmed Alkaabi and Ali Mohsen Ebrahim added 12 apiece, with Mahdi scoring 10.
Albasri finished as the game's leading scorer with 27 points, including six three-pointers from eight attempts, while Wesley Alcegaire recorded 22 points and nine rebounds for Hassan Maki's Nuwaidrat.
Sitra made the stronger start, establishing a 23-15 first-quarter lead before Nuwaidrat fought back in the second period to reduce the deficit to 46-45 at half-time.
Nuwaidrat then outscored Sitra 19-14 in the third quarter to take a 64-60 advantage into the final period.
The fourth quarter saw several changes of lead, with Sitra recovering from a 70-66 deficit to move 78-75 ahead before their opponents responded with seven unanswered points, setting up the closing sequence.
Victory moved Sitra into fifth place with a 1-3 record, ahead of sixth-placed Nuwaidrat, who share the same record after three successive losses following their opening-round win over Al Najma.
Fourth-round action continues on Wednesday at Umm Al Hassam Sports Hall, with Isa Town facing Samaheej at 6pm before Al Hala meet Al Najma at 8pm.
The round concludes on Thursday when league leaders and defending champions Muharraq take on Al Ettihad, while Manama face Al Ahli.
