Erling Haaland's father drops Man City exit hint amid charges uncertainty
Enzo Maresca press conference after Man City knock Brighton out of Carabao Cup

Erling Haaland’s father has seemingly dropped a transfer hint over his son’s future at Manchester City.

The Norwegian striker is the top scorer in the Premier League once more this term, picking up from where he left off with nine goals in his opening nine games so far in the top flight.

The former Borussia Dortmund forward fired a blank in his side’s 1-0 home defeat by Brighton over the weekend, as Enzo Maresca’s side wobbled to let Arsenal leapfrog them to the top of the table after the champions ended a 14-year winless run at Anfield to claim 1-0 victory over Liverpool.

City, meanwhile, are still awaiting their sentencing for the guilty verdict handed to them by an independent commission for their 115 breaches of financial rules dating back to 2009.

Uncertain future: Erling Haaland

A multitude of hypothetical punishments have been thrown around my commentators, pundits and fans alike, while City remain entangled in a lengthy appeals process.

Should the club be relegated or be issued a huge points deduction, many believe that the club’s stars will likely depart, including their star No9.

“Well, Juventus was match-fixing and a few other things,” Alf-Inge Haaland said of City’s situation, having been asked about his son’s future should the club be sanctioned.

“I think we should await the appeal process. It could happen quickly, even though there are rival supporters, clubs, and not least journalists who are out for blood against City right now.

“So we’ll just have to wait and see what the appeal outcome says.

“City believe they have strong evidence to stand up and prove their innocence, so I think we wait until that decision is reached.

“Erling thinks about playing as much football as he can and concentrates on that.

“I think it’s more those of us outside the pitch who think a bit more about it.”

Arsenal have previously been linked with a move for the Scandinavian, while Real Madrid are also thought to hold an interest in the striker, who finished eighth in the 2026 Ballon d’Or rankings, which were topped by Bayern Munich and England’s Harry Kane.
