Ghana U-23 head coach Desmond Ofei has expressed strong confidence in the Black Meteors’ chances of qualifying for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, declaring that the team has the quality, determination and motivation needed to secure a place at the global sporting event.
Ofei is optimistic that Ghana can end its long absence from Olympic football, insisting that the time is right for the country to return to the competition. He believes the current group of players has the hunger and ability to demonstrate the depth of footballing talent in the country.
Speaking in an interview with 3news.com, the coach gave an emphatic assessment of Ghana’s qualification prospects, expressing his belief that the team can achieve its objective if it continues on its current path of preparation.
“100 per cent that we will qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games,” Ofei stated.
The coach explained that his confidence stems from the team’s preparations and the determination of the players to prove their worth on the international stage. He believes the squad is motivated by the opportunity to represent Ghana and demonstrate that the country continues to possess talented young footballers capable of competing at the highest level.
“I believe we can qualify because I feel the time is right and it has been way too long and we are preparing well and the boys are hungry to prove to the nation that there is a lot of talent in this country,” he added.
Ofei also highlighted Ghana’s standing in African football, arguing that the country has the footballing pedigree to compete for a place at the Olympics. However, he acknowledged that the responsibility rests with the team to translate that reputation and the players’ potential into performances capable of delivering qualification.
“Ghana is one of the best footballing nations in Africa and it is up to us to show and as I said, the boys are hungry to prove themselves,” he said.
The Black Meteors will be aiming to turn their coach’s optimism into tangible results as they work towards the qualification campaign for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Ghana’s return to the men’s Olympic football tournament would provide a significant platform for the country’s emerging talents to showcase their abilities against some of the world’s best young players.
Ofei’s confidence places the spotlight on the team’s preparations and its ability to meet the demands of the qualification process. With the coach stressing the players’ determination and the importance of demonstrating Ghana’s talent, the Black Meteors will be expected to build a competitive squad capable of delivering on the ambition of Olympic qualification.
