Cork fighter Christina Desmond has claimed the vacant EBU European Super Lightweight title after a points victory over Spain's Clara Lopez.

The triumph in the Spanish city of Sagunto comes just weeks after she became the first holder of the inaugural BUI Irish Women's Super Lightweight title following a victory over Galway's Louise Creaven.

Now Desmond, a serving member of the An Garda Síochána in Waterford, can add a European title to an unbeaten record of seven wins as a professional after overcoming Lopez on Saturday night.

Desmond came out on top on the judges' cards after 10 rounds in the Pabellon Ovni venue in Valencia province, with the victory coming just 12 months on from her pro debut against Joanna Fraszczak at the National Stadium, Dublin.
