Halftime adjustments secret of Chiefs’ success

Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando da Cruz needed some halftime adjustments to spur his side to a convincing success in the Carling Knockout Cup on Tuesday, he explained after the game.

A second half hattrick from Wandile Duba saw Chiefs to a 3-0 win over TS Galaxy to end a run of three successive draws and book themselves a place in the quarterfinals.

“I asked them at halftime to be calmer inside the box and that’s what we did in the second half and scored goals. Maybe we could have scored five or six goals.

“We lacked an intensity in the first half,” added Da Cruz, who has been under increasing pressure after poor results for the club and desperately needed a win to keep the pressure off

“But I'm very happy for the players because we played four days ago, and we spent a lot of energy during that game (against Red Arrows of Zambia in the African Confederation Cup), so deserved to win today.

“Step by step, we started to control this game, and we had big chances in the first half, but we were not good in our decision making, and in terms of technical quality.

“The most important was to get through to the next round,” Da Cruz added.
