Kruger United coach Abraham Mongoya has promised that the Village Boys will continue to win matches after securing their third league win of the season by thumping Richards Bay 3-1 at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.

Wonderboy Makhubu, Ebrahim Seedat and Mancoba Zwane were on target for Kruger, while Luyanda Khumalo netted Bay’s only goal.

“Credit to the boys. They put in a fight. We have always believed in the work we do and we never cracked under pressure. The management has always believed in us, so that helped as well. There’s still more to come,” Mongoya said.

I have always told the boys that they should not worry about the pressure from the outside because that is my responsibility, but they must be able to handle the pressure we put on ourselves internally

Rookies Kruger had a tough start to life in the Premiership, needing their sixth game to finally register points, beating provincial rivals TS Galaxy 1-0 away, having lost four of their five opening fixtures with a single draw.

Many were already starting to tip the Village Boys for relegation. The side’s recent purple patch has convinced Mongoya that they can finish inside the top eight in what’s their first season in the top flight.

“I have always told the boys that they should not worry about the pressure from the outside because that is my responsibility, but they must be able to handle the pressure we put on ourselves internally because we have big ambitions this season and that is to be in the top eight,” the Kruger mentor said.

Kruger’s next game is in the league against Mamelodi Sundowns at home on November 28.
