Khamzat Chimaev made light work of Robbie Lawler, putting him away within two minutes in a battle of former UFC world champions.
Since losing his middleweight title to Sean Strickland back in May, Chimaev had competed three times prior to tonight. He made quick work of Dillon Danis and Tyron Woodley, before being given his toughest test yet but decisively defeating Gilbert Burns.
Tonight’s challenge was an interesting one as he got to face yet another former title holder in Lawler, who has been retired for over three years. It also served as a tune-up for his title showdown in three weeks’ time with Colby Covington.
Khamzat Chimaev and Robbie Lawler both used to compete in the UFC’s welterweight division, but the former looked considerably bigger as they locked up early. He almost immediately got Lawler down but opted against going for the gut wrench.

Chimaev scored another takedown quickly afterwards and this time was able to get the score to 8-0 with a gut wrench. From there he got one more takedown and the result was a first period victory for the streaking middleweight.
