Amazon Prime were forced to issue an apology after Bruno Fernandes gave an X-rated response in an interview after Manchester United’s win over Roma. Fernandes was clearly fired up as he delivered a passionate interview and denied 'lies' involving him and Michael Carrick.
The Red Devils claimed all three points over the Italian club in dramatic style in the Champions League on Tuesday night. United were trailing 2-0 going into the half-time break at Old Trafford, before Fernandes helped lead a comeback for Carrick’s side in the second 45 minutes. Fernandes converted a penalty before Matheus Cunha scored a brace to put United on their way to claiming a much-needed victory in the Champions League. After the final whistle, Fernandes gave an interview in which he was asked whether the victory over Roma would help keep Carrick in his job as United manager.
"We don't need to save anyone's job,” Fernandes told Amazon Prime. "The club needed that win. The players needed that win. It is something we needed as a group of players and staff. We have been working so hard to get out of this situation together.
"It has been tough. There has been a lot of speculation in the media. A lot of lies around many things that have happened at this club, between me and the manager, like that we have cleared the air. Nothing like that happened. The manager took a decision of making myself on the bench because I wasn't performing. And that's fair.
"Everyone felt like that was a punishment for the words that I had (after the defeat to Como). And if it was, it was right. The manager makes the decisions. I have to accept it. I have to go forward with that. It doesn't change the belief I have in the manager, the staff and every player at this club.
"And it doesn't change my aim to win every f****** game that I have ahead of me."
Amazon presenter Gabby Logan was then forced to issue an apology for the swearing used by Fernandes in his interview.
Logan said: “I’m sorry about the swearing there at the end of that interview, but clearly passion running very, very high there for Bruno [Fernandes].”
Fernandes, who was awarded the man of the match award, also expressed his wish for the victory over Roma to help United turn a corner with their recent form.
Before claiming a victory over the Serie A club, United had gone nine games without a win across all competitions, which had led to increased speculation around Carrick’s future at Old Trafford.
"We've done some good things at bits, but we were not capable to have that consistent, to do it through a full game, to get more results,” Fernandes said. “It's been tough, but obviously today it was important to get a win.
"We knew after half-time that we still had the fans with us, and we felt that at any moment we could change that with a goal, with something. Fortunately for us, we did it today.
"Of course, it's about performing at this club, it's about getting results and winning games, we know that. It's been a long time. We didn't get a win, it's been frustrating for them, as much as it's been for us too.
"But we didn't take that the wrong way, we took it in a good way because it's normal. Fans want to win games, they've been used to seeing this club at the top, winning trophies, winning games every week. For them it's been so frustrating to see the club in this situation.
"I just want to make everyone aware that we're all frustrated with the situation at the moment and we all want to get out of this. Hopefully this win today gives the start of something good for us."
There was, however, a dampener at the end of the match, with Cunha appearing to storm off at full-time after an exchange with Carrick on the pitch.
