Ghana football legend Malik Jabir has questioned reports that Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku intends to seek a third term, arguing that his record should be judged by the trophies won during his time in office.
Okraku assumed the presidency in 2019 and could extend his stay after the GFA amended its constitution at the 2025 Congress to increase the presidential term limit from two terms to three.
The constitutional change has drawn concern from Jabir, who believes repeated adjustments to term limits raise questions about the priorities of football administrators.
Speaking in an interview with Angel FM, the former Asante Kotoko player and coach said the focus should be on achievements in football rather than extending a president’s tenure.
“What third term? Look, any association that keeps changing its term of office means maybe we are not too serious,” he said.
Jabir added that Okraku would likely have enjoyed stronger backing to remain president if Ghana had won major trophies during his tenure.
“I tell you, if Okraku had won all the cups we need by now, I don’t think anybody would want him to go,” he said.
