Duncan Ferguson is settling into his life in Belfast as Glentoran manager, but has found the time to praise a former Everton player who he says is ‘special’.

In a world of bad captains, such as Bruno Fernandes at Manchester United, Everton legend Duncan Ferguson has looked back on a player from Everton’s recent history who was the prototype captain and one he sees as being similar to Roy Keane and Steven Gerrard.

Here is what he has said about the man often coined as being Mr. Everton.

Duncan Ferguson lauds Seamus Coleman

Speaking to OTB Football on TikTok, Glentoran boss Ferguson was asked about his thoughts on Seamus Coleman, to which he had a lot of praise for the Irish footballing legend.

“Seamus is special, he’s a special guy. He’s got loyalty, trust. Very few people in life have any loyalty there; there’s no loyalty anywhere now. Seamus is one of them.

“He’s a guy you can 100% count on. Everyone in Everton loves Seamus; he’s a hard worker, a good leader, a good talker, and wants the best for his club. These captains are the best ones.

“You look at Roy Keane, for instance, or Seamus Coleman, or all these top captains, Steven Gerrard. They look after the players, they look after the manager, that’s the type of captain you want.”

This is obviously quite the praise and both Keane and Gerrard are two of the most noteworthy captains in the history of the Premier League and putting Coleman alongside them does speak volumes of the perception of the Irishman within Everton.

Coleman doesn’t get anywhere near the credit and respect he deserves from the wider footballing world. Coleman is a Everton legend and it’s about time he was recognised for being one of the finest captains in the Premier League era.

Sat seventh in the all time Everton appearance list with 435, Coleman is going to be long remembered a great within the walls of Finch Farm. A true great.
