‘Everybody Act Tough When They Up’ - WNBA Fans Revisit Angel Reese’s ‘Terrible Sportsmanship’ vs. Valkyries After Dream’s Heartbreaking Finals Loss

The Atlanta Dream’s championship hopes crashed on Saturday night as they suffered a 68-63 defeat against the Golden State Valkyries in Game 7 of the WNBA Finals.

While the Valkyries celebrated their historic championship victory, an old moment involving Angel Reese from earlier in the series resurfaced on social media. With the tables now turned, WNBA fans wasted little time reminding Reese of her actions during Game 3.

Angel Reese’s Gesture From Game 3 Went Viral

The incident occurred late in the fourth quarter of Game 3 when Atlanta had already established a good lead over Golden State. Reese, who was sitting on the bench, could be heard repeatedly yelling “You a bum” at the Valkyries rookie Aminata Gueye.

Reese followed her comments with the popular “too small” hand gesture while sporting a wide grin. The gesture appeared to mock Gueye, suggesting that she was no match for Atlanta.

As the clip gained traction following Saturday’s championship decider, fans shared their thoughts on Reese’s behavior during Game 3.

When Reese made the gesture, Atlanta was already leading by 25 points. It was not a situation where the Dream had fought back from a significant deficit to take control of the game. Instead, they were already dominating the Valkyries.

For some fans, Reese’s decision to mock an opponent while holding such a comfortable advantage came across as unnecessary and disrespectful.

“Everybody act tough when they up,” onefan said, whereas another one wrote, “acting like this up 25 is terrible sportsmanship, dude.”

Reese has experienced several viral moments throughout her basketball career. One of the most memorable came during the 2023 NCAA women’s basketball championship game between LSU and Iowa.

During the closing stages of LSU’s victory, Reese directed the famous John Cena-inspired “you can’t see me” gesture towards Caitlin Clark. For one fan, Reese’s interaction with Gueye brought back memories of that controversial celebration.

“This reminds me of the LSU-Iowa ‘can’t see me’ moment and her tweets from last year’s Pistons-Magic series. She got so much to say when everything is going in her favor, but as soon as the script flips, her energy shifts. Definition of a frontrunner,” the fan wrote.

For many X users, the Dream’s heartbreaking Finals defeat felt like karma for Angel Reese’s actions earlier in the series.

“Love Angel but YEA!!! Belt was deserved big dawg. Should’ve never talked to our girls like that!!!!” one user said, whereas another one wrote, “Another one bites the dust.”

Reese has built her brand on confidence, and she has never shied away from the spotlight, good or bad. Whether she responds to the criticism remains to be seen.
