In just three years, 18-year-old Jayden ‘The Pitbull’ Holmes has transformed a simple desire to get active into an extraordinary journey towards the top of kickboxing and Muay Thai.
Currently, the athlete from Elite Muay Thai Boran Gym in Fontainebleau holds three titles: two kickboxing championships and a Muay Thai championship. What started as a search for fitness at the gym has developed into a passion driven by discipline, determination, and an appetite for competition.
Holmes’s rapid rise is proof of what can happen when talent meets hard work and a willingness to push beyond personal limits. The Pitbull now holds three championship belts: the South African Muaythai Organisation Junior South African Welterweight Title belt, the Junior Welterweight South African Title belt, and the K1 WKU Junior Intercontinental Title.
He said the intercontinental champion fight was one of his most special, because a week before the fight, he was sick. “My doctors said I shouldn’t fight this fight, but I didn’t listen. I still went in. It was a very tough fight, but I fought him before, so I was quite used to what he was doing. I counteracted mostly what he was doing, and it got me the win.”
“I cannot put into words the time, effort, blood, sweat, and tears I put into that fight. Being able to win it is just next level. When I walked into these gym doors for the first time, I had never dreamed of this. I never thought I would ever achieve this. It felt unreal. It felt like this wasn’t a real moment, but then I put so many hours behind those titles. It means so much to me, how much hard work I put in towards it.”
His ambitions are now reaching new heights. Towards the end of this year, Holmes is set to compete for a prestigious super title in K1 kickboxing, a challenge that could add another significant achievement to his growing collection.
Beyond the local spotlight, his impressive progress has also earned him the opportunity to represent South Africa at a world Muay Thai competition in Thailand next year.
For Holmes, this is more than an international competition. Thailand is one of his dream destinations, offering the chance to test his skills against some of the world’s top martial artists. At just 18, Jayden is chasing bigger titles, international recognition and a place among the sport’s rising stars.
He advised upcoming fighters to put in the work and show up every day. His coach, David Spagnolo, said he is proud of Holmes’s achievements, and that the fighter has put a lot of hard work into his training. “He has been here for three to four years, and there is a lot of hard work and dedication he has put in. The hard work, dedication, and all the sacrifices have paid off. Our big mission now is to get him sponsors and get him to Thailand next year.”
