The Mbombela Golf Club’s course was abuzz during the Van Wettens Golf Day on October 15. With 33 fourballs and 132 players taking to the fairways, the competition was fierce.

Despite the scorching Lowveld heat, spirits remained high and business partners, friends and Lowvelders came together for a good cause and a fantastic day of golf.

Dandre Neumeyer, Chris Velleman, Pontie van Rooyen and Eugene Neumeyer of the Pontie’s Panelbeaters team walked away as the fourball winners of the day with 143 points. The players each received a Mobi-Draft Cooler.

The day did not end at the 18th hole. but continued into the evening, starting with a charity auction. Prizes such as a framed and signed Pumas rugby jersey, a weekend getaway to the Waterberg Wildlife Sanctuary and a bottle of Avante Brandy, signed by former Springbok Duane Vermeulen, were up for grabs.

The day was not just about golf; Van Wettens Breakdown Services announced that it had raised R100 000 to donate to Abraham Kriel Kinderhuis.

Additional contributions will be made to smaller charities in and around the Lowveld.

“A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who helped make this event another tremendous success,” said Van Wettens Breakdown Services managing director Wim van Wetten. “Your generosity and continued support make it possible for us to give back to those who need it most.”

The company also thanked the day’s main sponsors: RMS Insurance, Craven Financial Solutions and Pontie’s Panelbeaters.

“Van Wettens Breakdown Services believes that making a difference goes far beyond the roads it travels. It’s about supporting the communities that have supported the company for nearly 60 years, and we cannot wait to see Lowvelders on the golf course in 2027,” said van Wetten.
