The All Blacks' security manager Logan Cadwallader has died suddenly at the team's hotel in Edinburgh.

His death came on Monday, with New Zealand Rugby saying he died as a result of “a medical event.”

Cadwallader was a former special forces soldier and the father of three children.

The squad is in the Scottish capital preparing for a Nations Championship test against Scotland on Saturday.

Assistant coach Jason Ryan, speaking for the team, said Cadwallader had held the security manager's role with the All Blacks for 10 years and was “a great team member” and a “quiet hero."

“This is something you don’t really prepare for, losing a team member,” Ryan said. ”I just want to, on behalf of the All Blacks, pass on our sincere condolences to Logan’s family, particularly his wife Nannette and three kids, Trey, Brooke and Mia.

“I can tell you that the team is heartbroken. He had a massive influence on a lot of people in the All Blacks in the last decade. He was always looking ahead for us and always looking out for us and our families.

“The country has lost a great soldier and we’ve lost a great team member. And we love him.”

Cadwallader had worked with the All Blacks for a decade, during which Ryan said his influence on the squad's players and their families was felt widely.

The All Blacks are due to face Wales on 14 November following this weekend’s game against Scotland, before they take on England at Allianz Stadium on 21 November.
