Arsenal star Piero Hincapie looks to have mocked Virgil van Dijk with a social media post following his side’s win over Liverpool on Sunday.
The defending Premier League champions went three points clear at the top of the table with a 1-0 victory at Anfield, with Kai Havertz grabbing the only goal of the game during the first half. Liverpool had chances to level things up, with Alexis Mac Allister spurning the hosts’ bets opportunity as he sent his header over the bar.
The Reds struggled to break down their opponents’ resolute defense in the second half though as Andoni Iraola’s side missed the chance to go within three points of their rivals, and now sit nine points off the Gunners.
It was clear to see how much the win at Anfield meant to Mikel Arteta and his side, with the Arsenal boss wildly celebrating the club’s first win at Anfield since 2012 at the full-time whistle, and his players also reveled in the victory.
Hincapie took to Instagram to share a number of pictures from the game, one of them being an image of his sleeve bearing the golden Premier League logo, signifying Arsenal’s status as defending champions.
The defender posted the pictures alongside the caption: “I don’t forget.” Fans now seem to have deciphered the meaning behind the message, which appears to be a dig aimed at Liverpool’s captain.
Van Dijk made a similar post following the Reds’ goalless draw with Arsenal back in January, with the Dutchman having included a picture of Liverpool’s golden Premier League logo alongside the message: “We are a team, we are friends but most importantly we are a family.”
It seems Arsenal and Hincapie have not forgotten the post, with the Ecuador international taking his chance to hit back after his side’s long-awaited win at Anfield.
Summing up his feelings at full-time, Arteta told Sky Sports: "Extremely proud. It's been 14 years (since Arsenal won at Anfield), and that's a long time, so I'm sure we made everybody attached to the club extremely proud today.
"Not only for the victory but for the way we've done it, the spirit we've shown. Especially considering what happened four days ago when you lose and go out of the cup against a team you are supposed to beat.
Get Liverpool's new 2026/27 home kit
Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
"That's the magical part of this game. It can take you to really bad places but four days later you have the opportunity to do something really historic and we've done it.
"You have to go through that (coping with the Anfield atmosphere), otherwise you don't win. We have had previous like that in the past and hadn't sustained it.
"We made a penalty or misread in the box or sometimes they have a magical moment and put the ball in the net and you don't manage to win the game. Today we had all of that, we had an element of luck as well and we had the quality in the right moments as well to hurt them."
