Hearts suffer narrow defeat to Debibi United
Hearts of Oak midfielder Dominic Nsobila

Hearts of Oak’s winning run came to an end on Sunday after they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Debibi United in their Ghana Premier League Matchday 9 encounter at Debibi Presby Park.

Sarkodie Demetrous scored the only goal of the game in the 51st minute, finishing off a well-worked move by slotting the ball past an advancing Benjamin Asare.

The Phobians went into the game hoping to extend their three-game winning streak and to stay at the top of the league table, but they were unable to get the result they needed and dropped to third.

Hearts were not entirely poor on the afternoon, but their midfield failed to reach its usual level, with Debibi United doing a better job of controlling that area of the pitch. The visitors also struggled to create enough clear-cut opportunities to trouble the home side and find an equaliser.

Debibi, meanwhile, produced a much-needed response after their recent setback against Bechem United. The victory takes them out of the bottom three and gives them renewed confidence as they look to improve their position in the league.

Debibi United will next face Dreams FC, while Hearts of Oak will look to return to winning ways when they take on Heart of Lions.
