Helicopters are making headlines in the NFL too.
Though this didn’t involve a commute to and from practice — a la LeBron James — a scary incident occurred during the National Anthem at Lumen Field on Monday night when one helicopter appeared to nearly get hit by fireworks.
Four US Army helicopters flew over the field prior to the “Monday Night Football” clash between the Seahawks and Bears. Three made it safely out of the stadium before the pyrotechnics went off, but the last chopper narrowly escaped.
As the fireworks exploded around the final helicopter, gasps were heard among the crowd of 70,000. The helicopter remained in the air and followed the others beyond in the stadium in the Seattle sky.
Multiple angles from various videos were posted on social media of the moment as fans freaked out over the incident that seemingly involved some miscommunication by the stadium’s staff.
“That firework timing was actually dangerous af, how did they coordinate that without crashing?” a fan wrote on X.
“Somebody in the control room is having the worst Monday night of their life,” another wrote.
A third added: “blackhawk is kinda made for that”
“Fireworks are more accurate than [Sam] Darnold tonight!” one quipped.
“Bro i would be so f–king terrified if i was on that helicopter,” another user added.
Helicopter flyovers have become a regular event of sorts at Lumen Field. They were also involved in the pregame festivities before Team USA’s World Cup game against Australia in June.
The Seahawks went on to lose 34-17 to the Bears, which puts the defending Super Bowl champs at a 4-4 record and currently out of the playoffs.
Sam Darnold completed 17-of-34 passes for 188 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, while the defense gave up four touchdowns including three on the ground.
The Bears (6-2) now trail the Vikings (6-1) by a half-game for the top spot of the NFC North, as well as the 49ers (6-1) for the best record in the conference.
The Seahawks will look to bounce back against their divisional foe Cardinals (3-5) in Week 9 while the Bears host the Buccaneers (3-5).
