‘Good Product (Roger) Goodell,’ ‘Investigate The Refs’ – NFL Fans Call Out Officials Over Fred Warner’s ‘Egregious’ $65,673 Fine

Fred Warner’s latest bill from the NFL left fans asking why the officials couldn’t spot the same problems while the game was happening.

The San Francisco 49ers linebacker received two fines totaling $65,673 following the Washington Commanders matchup. Both plays went unpenalized, including one where officials threw a flag and then picked it up. That last detail was especially hard for frustrated viewers to swallow.

Fred Warner’s Fines Put Missed Calls Back Under Scrutiny

Warner’s punishment included a $47,762 fine for illegal use of his helmet and a $17,911 fine for a hit on a defenseless player.

The two incidents added up to a substantial financial penalty after neither produced an enforced penalty during the game.

That distinction drove much of the reaction. A fine can punish the player days later. It cannot give an offense the yardage it would have received when the play happened.

“Refs threw a flag on the play because of an obvious illegal hit AND PICKED IT UP… Good product Goodell,”one fan wrote.

“Worry about actually making the call,”another fan added.

The complaints followbroader frustration with NFL officiating. Earlier this month, Jordan Schultz reported criticism from coaches and executives about the standard of officiating around the league. Warner’s fines supplied another example for fans already tired of debating missed calls.

”Investigate the refs this is egregious,” another fan added.

Fans Question What Postgame Punishment Actually Fixes

One supporter wanted an additional safeguard before officials erase a flag.

“So another words picked up flags need booth reviews. These change games, but the team wins and losses don’t change. Do better,”the fan wrote.

Another questioned the difference between punishment during a game and discipline afterward.

“Two of these called in a game is a suspension but just fines since they chose not to. Makes a lot of sense,”one user wrote.

A separate response accepted that the contact was illegal while arguing against a subsequent fine.

“IMO there should never be fines for plays that were not penalized. Was this hit illegal? Most would say yes including myself. But it was not called in the game and therefore is not a penalty. Therefore shouldn’t be a fine. Thoughts?”another fan wrote.

The NFL’s disciplinary process does allow review beyond flags thrown during games. Its officiating department reviews every play and refers potential violations for further examination, so an uncalled foul can still result in punishment.

Warner currently ranks No. 18 in the 2026 full-seasonPFN LB Impact rankings, with an 81.5 grade through six appearances, as checked Oct. 24.

His play remains important to San Francisco’s defense. But the anger here extends to the people holding the flags. For fans watching a potential penalty get waved away, a fine announced afterward offers very little satisfaction.
