Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston believes the Black Stars face a difficult task to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after losing their first two matches in the qualifiers.
Ghana are bottom of Group C without a point following defeats to Ivory Coast and The Gambia, putting their chances of reaching the tournament in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda under serious pressure.
The Black Stars opened their campaign with a 2-0 loss to Ivory Coast in Bouake before suffering a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana had taken a two-goal lead against The Gambia but failed to hold on, handing their opponents a comeback victory and leaving the team with more ground to make up in the qualifying race.
The disappointing results were followed by the departure of head coach Carlos Queiroz. An interim technical team has since been appointed to prepare the Black Stars for their next two qualifying matches against Somalia in November.
Kingston, who is currently the head coach of Uganda’s junior national teams, believes Ghana will need a remarkable turnaround to keep their qualification hopes alive.
“Looking at the situation now, it will be a miracle for us to qualify,” he told 3Sports.
“Two teams have six points; it means Ghana will have to win all games. For me, it will be very difficult, and it will take a miracle to turn things around,” he added.
