Sierra Canyon's unbeaten run this season has had several key contributors ranging from all grades. One of those standouts this season has been sophomore Jaxson Davis.
Last Friday, Oct. 16, he showed just how valuable he was in a shutout win.
Following a poll of the USA TODAY Sports audience, Davis was voted as the USA TODAY Sports Super 25 Playmaker of the Week after the No. 9 Trailblazers’ dominant 41-0 win over Chaminade (CA). Davis finished his night with six tackles, three tackles for a loss, an interception returned for a touchdown, a caused fumble and a blocked punt.
By the time the first quarter was over, the Trailblazers had put the game out of reach, scoring 28 points in the opening 12 minutes. They added 13 second-half points to fully put the game away.
The shutout was the fourth of the season posted by Sierra Canyon and third in a row. It’s only allowed 48 total points this season and have not allowed more than 10 points in a game since its season-opening 42-21 win over JSerra Catholic (CA).
Davis has experienced a breakout sophomore season on the defensive side of the ball, tallying 45 tackles, five tackles for loss, two interceptions, a forced fumble and blocked kick.
Sierra Canyon (8-0) returns to the field on Friday, Oct. 23 as the Trailblazers travel to Notre Dame (CA).
