LeBron James went shot for shot with MrBeast in a $100,000 3-point contest in the YouTube star’s latest video, which was posted on Saturday.
James’ collab with MrBeast led to a 2025 video resurfacing, where the YouTuber revealed his dream of organizing a one-on-one showdown between James and Michael Jordan.
MrBeast built up to the basketball idea by pointing to an earlier video with soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo. “One of my most-seen videos in the last year is where I had Ronaldo 1-v-1 like a random fan for a million dollars. People loved it,” he said.
“So I was just randomly thinking, and the other day I was like, imagine if we got LeBron and Michael Jordan to 1-v-1 and we handicapped them in some way. They would never do it, but imagine if we could get that to happen. You know how [expletive] crazy that would be?” MrBeast said.
When MrBeast floated the idea in 2025, Jordan was 62 and James was 40. James is still playing, now in his first season with the Philadelphia 76ers, having joined them as a free agent over the summer.
MrBeast’s latest video saw him take on a lineup of stars that included Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark, Manchester City star Erling Haaland, and Olympic gold medalists Simone Biles and Alysa Liu, along with Indian cricket star Hardik Pandya and chef Gordon Ramsay.
James’ segment closed the video. The two met in James’ hometown of Akron, Ohio, for a one-on-one 3-point contest, with $100,000 for the LeBron James Family Foundation, James’ charity in his hometown, on the line. If MrBeast won, the money would go to his subscribers.
Before they started, the 76ers star joked that he is “no Steph Curry.” The contest came down to a narrow finish.
The pairing MrBeast imagined goes straight to the debate over basketball’s greatest player, an argument fans have carried on for many years. James has four NBA championships. Jordan won six and never lost in the Finals.
Handicap or not, a one-on-one between them would still need both men to sign on, which feels very unlikely. But with MrBeast now collaborating with James, he’s one step closer to his dream video.
