Those who are being considered to replace Michael Carrick at Manchester United claim that the squad "talk too much" whilst also believing that the dressing room "needs order and discipline".

The Red Devils have endured a miserable start to the season, winning just one of their opening seven Premier League games, which is their worst start to a campaign in 40 years.

That has seen the pressure ramp up on Carrick, who was also appointed in the summer, but his latest blow came in Italy, where his United side were hammered 4-1 by Como in the Champions League.

The dire run of results has already led to talk of Carrick being replaced, but several of the candidates who are being considered have raised red flags with how the players act. Over the past fortnight Lisandro Martinez and Bruno Fernandes have both spoken out, taking aim at senior figures at Old Trafford.

Following the loss in Atletico Madrid Martinez said that he expected more from the technical director, Jason Wilcox, who had not given them the squad required to fight across four competitions. Then on Wednesday night Fernandes blamed United's tactics, which were continually ripped apart, on Carrick.

The Telegraph reports that a source close to one of United’s managerial candidates has said: “It’s clear they need order and discipline. The dressing room is out of control and that is the first thing to fix.”

Meanwhile a friend of another candidate clearly feels similarly and claimed that the players are too vocal and need to be more respect of United's stature.

The players on the red side of Manchester, some of whom have had four or more different permanent managers at Old Trafford, have been accused of playing major roles in the dismissals of previous bosses. Difficult periods, of which there have been many, have been marred by players who've been accused of downing tools.

Carrick came out fighting on Friday ahead of United's clash with Bournemouth this week, underlining the need for his players to work hard, something he had mentioned in the aftermath of their loss in Como.

But despite his show of defiance, United have had to consider the prospect of another change in the dugout. It is understood former Germany and Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann would be high on the club's list, with the 39-year-old open to any approach.

Eddie Howe is another name that is highly regarded, but he has only been out of work for a matter of months. He left Newcastle during the summer and did want time away from the game, yet could be lured in by the prospect of leading such a massive outfit.

Other at Old Trafford are known to be admirers of Antonio Conte, Unai Emery or Fabian Hurzeler. Conte is another man out of a job and is a previous Premier League winner following his spell at Chelsea.
