Uganda Martyrs hand St Noa first defeat to go top
  • FUFA Women Super League | MD5 | Sunday November 1st
  • St Noa Girls FC 0-1 Uganda Martyrs Lubaga Women FC

Uganda Martyrs Lubaga Women FC seized their chance to go top of the 2026-27 FUFA Women Super League, handing St Noa Girls FC their first defeat of the season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.

With Kawempe Muslim Ladies away in Egypt for the CAF Women’s Champions League, Uganda Martyrs took full advantage of their absence to move to the summit after Matchday Five.

Coach Edward Kasozi’s side had to work for the victory, but Aidah Namuwonge’s early second-half strike proved the difference in a contest that ended St Noa’s unbeaten start to the campaign.

St Noa began brightly, taking the game to their visitors and enjoying the better of the early exchanges. However, Uganda Martyrs gradually found their footing, and by the 25th minute, both sides were evenly matched.

Neither could find a way through before the break, leaving the contest goalless at half-time.

But Uganda Martyrs needed just a minute after the restart to change the story. Namuwonge struck in the 46th minute to put the visitors ahead and end St Noa’s remarkable run without conceding a goal this season.

The hosts responded with greater urgency, pushing forward in search of an equaliser, but Uganda Martyrs stood firm.

St Noa came agonisingly close in the 81st minute when Marion Serenge rounded the goalkeeper. Just when an equaliser looked certain, Gloria Namugerwa came to Uganda Martyrs’ rescue with a vital goal-line clearance to keep her side in front.

That proved decisive as Kasozi’s charges held on for three valuable points and sole possession of the league summit.

Uganda Martyrs now have 10 points from five matches, one ahead of KCCA Women FC, who sit second with nine points.

Kawempe Muslim have slipped to third with eight points, level with She Corporate and St Noa, whose unbeaten run came to an end at Wankulukuku.

Uganda Martyrs have also been the league’s most productive side infront of goal, with eight strikes so far. St Noa, despite their defeat, have conceded only once this season.

Elsewhere, She Corporate were held to a second successive draw after sharing a 1-1 result with AMUS College. Leticia Nakyeyune scored for the Sharks before Amiya Jazirah levelled for AMUS.

A day earlier, She Maroons had edged Jinja United 2-1 at Iganga Ssaza. Lillain Mutuuzo was among the scorers for the winners, while Shakira Kasango found the net for Jinja United.

At Kabaka Kyabaggu, Makerere University Women FC surrendered their lead to draw 1-1 with Rines SS WFC. Rashida Nankya had put Makerere ahead in the 33rd minute, but Patricia Nakato Nanyanzi restored parity for Rines two minutes after the hour mark.

KCCA Women FC also dropped points after being held to a goalless draw by Lady Doves at the Katusabe Dove Playground in Masindi. Dorcus Kwikiriza walked away with the Player of the Match award.

On the scoring chart, Jesca Namanda remains the leading scorer with four goals, while Agnes Nabukenya, Angel Auki Kigongo and Kamiyati Naigaga have three apiece.

The league returns on Wednesday, November 4, with a derby between KCCA Women and She Maroons at Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo at 4pm.

Saturday, November 7, brings a meeting between AMUS College and St Noa Girls at AMUS Stadium in Bukedea, also starting at 4pm.

There will be three matches on Sunday, November 8. URA Ladies host She Corporate at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, while Uganda Martyrs welcome Jinja United at Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo. Both matches kick off at 4pm. Lady Doves will also host Rines SS at the Katusabe Dove Playground at the same time.

Makerere University’s fixture against Kawempe Muslim has been postponed as the latter continue their continental campaign in Egypt.
