Barcelona Facing Another Injury Scare Ahead Of Real Madrid Clash
Barcelona Facing Another Injury Concern After PSG Loss

Barcelona have been handed another injury concern ahead of Sunday’s El Clasico against Real Madrid after young defender Xavi Espart experienced ankle discomfort during the club’s Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Espart was one of Barcelona’s standout performers despite their 4-2 loss to the reigning European champions, but his withdrawal shortly after scoring has now raised concerns over his fitness.

According to Barca News Network, citing Mundo Deportivo, the youngster was substituted as a precaution after complaining of discomfort in his ankle.

The right-back had impressed after being handed a starting role by manager Hansi Flick and capped his performance with Barcelona’s opening goal, which brought the Catalan giants level at 1-1.

However, Flick opted to replace him shortly afterwards, despite Barcelona still being firmly in contention.

The decision initially came as a surprise, given Espart’s contribution and the attacking threat he had provided.

Reason For Espart’s Substitution Has Surfaced

It has now emerged that the substitution was prompted by concerns over the youngster’s physical condition rather than his performance.

Espart was also spotted speaking briefly with Barcelona’s physiotherapist after leaving the pitch.

Although the extent of the problem remains unclear, there is optimism within the Barcelona dressing room that he will recover in time for Sunday’s crucial La Liga encounter against Real Madrid.

His availability could prove important for Flick, who is already facing a shortage of defensive options.

Eric Garcia is considered highly unlikely to feature in El Clasico, while France international Jules Kounde remains doubtful.

Should Espart also fail to recover, Flick could be left with Alejandro Balde and Joao Cancelo as his only available options in the full-back positions.

The Catalan giants will now be hoping that the ankle discomfort does not develop into a more serious problem.

With Sunday’s meeting against Real Madrid approaching, Espart’s fitness will be closely monitored as Barcelona look to avoid another setback in an already depleted defensive department.
