Liverpool vs Arsenal predictions split 6 pundits as Jamie Carragher disagrees with Roy Keane

Liverpool host Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday in a game that has divided pundit opinion, with Jamie Carragher backing a home win and Ian Wright tipping Arsenal to take all three points.

Liverpool's Premier League encounter with Arsenal has sparked debate amongst pundits, with Jamie Carragher and Ian Wright amongst those holding differing views.

Andoni Iraola's outfit head into this crucial fixture in strong form following their Carabao Cup triumph over Chelsea, while the Gunners suffered an upset exit at the hands of Fleetwood Town a day earlier.

Before overcoming Xabi Alonso's team, Liverpool secured victories against Brentford, Brighton and Bournemouth, with their sole setback coming against Manchester City and look in good form. Arsenal are looking to overtake Enzo Maresca's side at the top following their weekend defeat to the Seagulls.

Having maintained an unbeaten league record against Mikel Arteta's teams at Anfield, Liverpool will be confident of securing a favourable outcome and potentially closing the gap to three points behind their rivals.

Despite playing at home, the reigning champions remain bookmakers' favourites, though that isn't necessarily the outcome most observers are anticipating.

Liverpool HAS the opportunity to make a significant statement with a win over Arsenal, and Jamie Carragher has already questioned their credentials in the Premier League title race. He subsequently offered a tentative response to that query through his score prediction.

Writing initially for The Telegraph, he stated: "Here is a question I did not think I would be asking at any stage this season: will Liverpool win the Premier League?

"It would be premature to describe this Sunday's Anfield fixture as a title duel. Arsenal are better equipped to defend their crown, while Liverpool are a work in progress.

"Whatever the outcome this weekend, Arsenal will leave Merseyside as the overwhelming favourites to claim back-to-back titles. They have a six-point lead over Liverpool. Should that extend to nine, Andoni Iraola's primary objective coming into this season will remain unchanged; qualifying for the Champions League will represent a promising start to his reign."

Speaking on the latest instalment of Stick to Football, he stated: "I actually do think 1-1 but I'm too bias. I'll go 2-1, Liverpool."

Arsenal icon Ian Wright will form part of Sky Sports' broadcast team for the encounter and has opted for the reverse of Carragher's forecast after initially leaning towards a stalemate.

Wright commented: "I think we beat them. This is the game that kind of defines Liverpool if they are coming back. You're looking at [Alexis] Mac Allister, even [Cody] Gakpo [to step up]... but deep down, I really think we beat them. 2-1 Arsenal."

Roy Keane proved to be the analyst who encouraged Wright to alter his forecast, although that didn't signify the former Manchester United midfielder was endorsing an Arsenal triumph.

He remarked: "I'm thinking draw, Liverpool did well against City until the red card, 1-1?" That stands as Liverpool's only loss of the season so far, highlighting the challenge confronting Arteta and his players.

Similar to Ian Wright, Gary Neville will be providing coverage of the match on television, though his forecast and attitude indicate he might not be particularly looking forward to it. Speaking on Stick to Football, he said in jest: "Arsenal will play for a point."

The Gunners have come under fire previously for failing to pursue victory more aggressively in away fixtures against the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

By contrast, Alan Shearer specifically forecast a score draw considering Liverpool's impressive recent performances. Speaking to Betfair, he said: "I'm going to go for a score draw.

"I just think with the form that Liverpool are in, I know Arsenal got dumped out of the cup in the week, but it was a very different team, so it'll be a different mentality going into it.

"Arsenal have to bounce back and it's going to be a really tough game and it's a tough one to call because Liverpool have got a lot going for them at the moment. I think both teams will take a draw, and I don't think it'd be a bad result for either team."

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

Given Arsenal's status as the strongest outfit in the league and Liverpool's growing defensive solidity, Chris Sutton expects a cautious, tight affair with few goals. In his BBC Sport predictions column, he wrote: Liverpool proved me wrong against Brighton last week, because they didn't just win, they played well too.

"After conceding so many goals last season, you can see they have really tightened things up. Arsenal don't give much away either, so this is going to be very close. Alexander Isak is scoring goals again for the Reds, and they will be full of confidence coming into this game.

"You could make a case for it ending up a repeat of the result we saw at the end of last season, when Dominik Szoboszlai's brilliant free-kick meant Liverpool edged a 1-0 win. I do think we will see the same scoreline, just with a different winner."
