Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has blasted Manchester United after it lost 4-1 to Como in the Champions League, hinting that it could signal the end for Michael Carrick.
Nico Paz ran riot for Cesc Fabregas' exciting side in Italy, and the scoreline flattered the visitors. Red Devils captain Bruno Fernandes then appeared to criticize the tactics and set-up that Carrick went with during a post-match interview with TNT Sports.
"(The result is) embarrassing, but the worst thing about it is that I don't think there were many people who thought Manchester United could win tonight," Carragher said on the CBS Sports broadcast. It comes after Carragher chose not to watch Liverpool in the Champions League for the first time.
"In some ways, it doesn't feel like a shock result. The manner of it is the shocking part of it. It's such a bad result and performance that it could have serious repercussions for the manager.
"Good lad, good player for Man Utd. They did well last season, but again, it looks like another Manchester United manager is going to bite the dust."
Asked if the poor results and performances are down to the players or the head coach, Carragher added: "It's everything.
"In Fabregas, we're looking at the next big coach in European football. I really do believe that, so there is a mismatch in the dugout, but it is everything.
"Where do you start? It never ends. It's a never-ending cycle. Is it the owners? Is it the manager? Is it the recruitment? Is it the players? Nobody seems to be able to get this right.
"They've tried everything and thrown lots of money at it: different managers, different profiles, different countries, different cultures. Everything they do just doesn't seem to work."
Carrick was asked about his position post-match, but he was keen to avoid getting into a discussion about whether his job might be under threat.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
"Listen, I've not given my own position any thought — this is for the supporters," he said. "I was one of them watching that, and I wasn’t happy at all."
