WWE could be welcoming back a familiar face whose departure from the promotion was marred by controversy.

A fresh report from PWInsider Elite is hinting both sides may have reached an understanding, with the contracts officially signed this past week, but no official announcement has been made by the promotion as of writing this article.

The situation is particularly enticing as the former star's tag team partner has already re-joined WWE in recent times, inevitably fuelling speculation we could see the pair share the ring once again.

WWE enjoys bringing back former stars after lengthy absences, producing shock value amongst the fans, whether these appearances are a one-off or they re-sign full-time with the promotion.

Matt Cardona, who previously fought under the monocle Zack Ryder, returned at the beginning of 2026 after a six-year absence, and a few months prior, AJ Lee returned to the circuit after 10 years away.

For this latest potential return, the process may not be as smooth sailing owing to the way the wrestler initially left the promotion.

Enzo Amore has not appeared in WWE since 2018, but PWInsdier Elite are under the impression he may have signed a new deal, with the possibility first raised during an episode of the We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Name Show.

He is said to have made a visit to the WWE Performance Center back in May, fuelling rumours that a return to the company could be on the horizon.

One source believes NXT could be a likely destination should a return materialise, with Amore potentially needing time to bed in owing to his long spell out.

Amore was a two-time Cruiserweight Champion, winning both titles in 2017, and won Tag Team of the Year in 2015 alongside Big Cass, who has already returned to the promotion.

Cass made his comeback on Raw in August, competing in the singles as a heel, and since signing a full-time contract, WWE may be lining up a return for the duo.

Why Enzo Amore's Departure From WWE Was Controversial

Amore (real name Eric Arndt) left WWE under a cloud in 2018 after allegations of sexual assault, with a woman alleging the wrestler had forced himself upon her while she was under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

WWE initially suspended the star before confirming his release in January 2018, with the investigation concluding in May and resulting in no infliction of criminal charges. Amore has always vehemently denied the accusations.

Once a top contender on the WWE roster, Amore has since competed on the independent circuit as Real1 and nZo.

At this stage, there has been no announcement or indication from WWE that Amore could be rejoining, but with the return of Big Cass as a heel, it would be interesting to see what the once babyface tag team could look like in the future.
