Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns have secured their places in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals following victories in their respective Round of 16 encounters.

Kaizer Chiefs returned to winning ways with a convincing 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy, with Wandile Duba and Mfundo Vilakazi among the goalscorers as Amakhosi booked their place in the last eight.

The victory provides a timely confidence boost for the Glamour Boys as they turn their attention to Saturday’s highly anticipated Soweto Derby against arch-rivals Orlando Pirates.

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates continued their impressive run with a comfortable 3-0 win over Milford FC at Orlando Stadium.

The Buccaneers took control of the contest in the first half, with Tshepang Moremi scoring twice and Thapelo Mokobodi also finding the back of the net, giving the hosts a commanding advantage.

Pirates created several additional scoring opportunities but were unable to extend their lead, despite chances to make the margin even more emphatic.

Nevertheless, the victory will boost their confidence heading into the Soweto Derby, where they will look to maintain their momentum against Chiefs.

At Loftus Versfeld, Mamelodi Sundowns edged Marumo Gallants 1-0, with Siyanda Ndlovu scoring the decisive goal to send the Brazilians into the quarter-finals.

The victory keeps Sundowns’ hopes of lifting the trophy alive as they join AmaZulu, Golden Arrows, Swallows and Sekhukhune United, who had already qualified for the next round.

Attention now shifts to Wednesday’s remaining Round of 16 fixture, with Durban City set to host Stellenbosch FC in a battle for the final quarter-final place.

The result will complete the last-eight line-up, with the quarter-final draw set to determine the remaining contenders’ routes to the semi-finals as the race for the Carling Knockout Cup title intensifies.
