Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal could make history against Aston Villa on Tuesday night. The young talent just cannot be stopped on his way to becoming one of the world's very best players, already a World and European champion at international level and a multi-time LaLiga winner.
Yamal is still yet to turn 20 years of age, and he now has a Champions League title in his sights, with Barcelona among the favourites for many this season. Barca are top of LaLiga again this season, dominating with one of the best attacks in world football, featuring Yamal and Raphinha, who has been red-hot since touching down in Catalonia a couple of years ago.
Yamal has been excellent again this season, and his form even put him in serious contention for the Ballon d'Or, which ultimately went to Harry Kane. The Spanish talent has scored 12 and assisted 11 in just 14 games across all competitions, and he now has his sights set on English opposition as he and his Barca teammates prepare to face off against Villa at Camp Nou on Tuesday night.
Yamal has scored twice and assisted four in just three Champions League games so far this season, and that form has him on the verge of a record.
"When you see the first goal he scored, it's incredible; right now he is the best player in the world." - Hansi Flick
As things stand, Yamal has the joint-most goals scored in the Champions League before the age of 20, level with Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe, who scored his 13 goals for Paris Saint-Germain. Yamal has already overtaken Erling Haaland, Patrick Kluivert, Raul, Karim Benzema and Jude Bellingham, and one goal against Villa on Tuesday night will see him set the record.
But there isn't any real rush for the attacker, who does not turn 20 until next July, so any goal in UEFA's premier competition this season will see him take the crown.
Stopping Yamal is going to be quite the challenge for Villa, especially with Raphinha, Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi also threatening. Villa have a 100% record in the competition so far and actually sit above Barca in the standings, but Unai Emery's men have not faced competition like this yet this season. Villa have beaten Viking, Fenerbahce and Club Brugge so far, while Barca have beaten Feyenoord and Galatasaray but came up short against back-to-back champions PSG.
Yamal and Co will be desperate to bounce back here, as they did over the weekend, when they blasted Alaves or six to respond to their El Clásico defeat to Real Madrid. Yamal scored twice in that win over Alaves, so he comes into this game in confident mood.
