FLORIDA STATE has seen their season hit a new low after their star wide receiver was ruled out for the rest of the campaign.
The Seminoles decided to take an eye-watering $50 million hit to fire head coach Mike Norvell after their rough loss to Clemson last weekend.
FSU now have to pay Norvell the third-highest head coaching buyout in college football history.
And to compound their woes, star wide receiver Duce Robinson tore his ACL during the 36-24 defeat to Clemson.
Robinson leads all Seminoles receivers this season with 438 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns.
The star transfer from USC is in his senior year, making his ACL injury that much more brutal.
Robinson’s first season with the Seminoles in 2025 was one to remember.
Through 11 games started, he recorded 56 receptions for 1081 yards and six touchdowns.
He was averaging 19.3 yards per reception, just above this season’s average of 18.3.
Robinson was well on his way to surpassing last year’s impressive numbers before his devastating ACL tear.
It remains to be seen how it may impact his NFL Draft prospects as one of several eye-catching wideouts in the 2027 class.
As for the Seminoles, it caps off what has been an absolutely disastrous 3-5 start.
The season was already in serious jeopardy after FSU fired Athletic Director Michael Alford after just two games.
FSU Athletics Hall of Fame member Rick Stockstill is now the interim head coach following Norvell’s departure.
The statement from FSU Monday read, “Florida State University President Richard McCullough informed head football coach Mike Norvell this afternoon that FSU is making a change in the leadership of its football program, effective immediately.
“We have made the decision to change the leadership of our football program.
“We thank Mike Norvell for his commitment and service to Florida State and wish him and his family the very best.
“We understand the deep passion of Seminole fans and share their high expectations for this program.
“We are confident in Rick Stockstill’s ability to provide steady leadership during this transition.
“We will conduct a thorough national search for the program’s next leader, someone who embraces Florida State’s tradition of championship athletics and our standard of excellence.”
