Riffa Seek First Gulf Club Champions League Win Against Qatar SC

Bahraini side host Qatar SC at Bahrain National Stadium tonight, looking to recover from their opening defeat to Al Nasr

Riffa will look to secure their first points in the 2026–27 GFF Gulf Club Champions League when they host Qatar SC tonight at 8pm at Bahrain National Stadium.

The Bahraini side, coached by Kuwaiti Mohamed Mashaan, enter their second Group B fixture seeking to recover from a 3-0 defeat to the UAE's Al Nasr in Dubai earlier this month.

Their continental struggles contrast with an unbeaten start to the domestic Nasser bin Hamad Premier League, where Riffa lead the standings with 14 points from six matches, having recorded four wins and two draws.

In their Gulf Club Champions League opener, Ramon Mierez gave Al Nasr the lead before Kevin Agudelo and Ajdin Hrustic added further goals to seal the result.

Qatar SC, meanwhile, began their campaign with a 1-1 home draw against Iraq's Al Zawraa. Mohamed Sherif opened the scoring for the visitors before Yohan Boli equalised shortly before half-time.

Those results leave Al Nasr top of Group B with three points, followed by Qatar SC and Al Zawraa on one each. Riffa sit fourth, still searching for their first point.

Match Preparations

Representatives from both clubs attended a pre-match coordination meeting yesterday, where Riffa were confirmed to wear sky blue and Qatar SC yellow and black.

Riffa's delegation included team manager Ahmed Al Kaabi, supervisor Misbah Al Kaabi, administrators Abdulrazzaq Mohammed and Ahmed Al Kooheji, and media coordinator Ahmed Hamada. Qatar SC were represented by head of football Khalid Al Kowari.

Qualification Hopes

The 12-team Gulf Club Champions League features three groups of four, with the top two sides from each group and the two best third-placed teams advancing to the quarter-finals.

That format leaves Riffa with an opportunity to revive their qualification hopes as they pursue their first victory in the competition.

The group stage concludes on February 17, with quarter-final ties scheduled from March 2 to 17, followed by the semi-finals and final in April.

Riffa qualified for the tournament by winning last season's Khalid bin Hamad Cup and are Bahrain's sole representatives in this edition.

Following tonight's home fixture, they will travel to face Al Zawraa on November 3.
