This Is Honda's All-New CBR500R Four. And You Can Buy It In Europe

Did this new inline four-cylinder engine spend too much time at the gym? I only ask because it's running around with no sleeves.

That didn't take long, did it? It seems like just yesterday that Honda was showing off a CBR500R Four concept in China, with no official release date announced for any market. Still, it seemed like the next best thing to a sure thing; only a matter of when and not if, even though which markets would get it (and in what order it might roll out) were ongoing, valid questions to have.

And while it's true that the two colorways on offer for the European launch of the 2027 Honda CBR500R Four are Ignition Red (Tricolour) and Mat Ballistic Black Metallic, with nary a stray RC213V replica livery in sight, it's also equally clear that a lot of modern sportbike fans find those colorways appealing. If the entire stated point of the CBR500R Four is to entice new riders and get them out on the road, then the math here seems quite simple.

This is an all-new machine, with a 500cc inline four-cylinder engine that makes a claimed peak power of 53.0 kilowatts (about 71 horsepower) at 11,000 rpm, alongside peak torque of 47.4 newton-meters (just a hair under 35 ft-lbs of torque) at 9,750 rpm. Since this is a European-market release, it's important to note that there will also be a restricted 35kW version available for A2 license-holders from the drop.

This engine was, of course, based on the idea of updating the popular CBR400R Four that dominated Japan for nearly the past 30 years. One significant change that Honda made in updating this engine architecture for a new era was utilizing materials science advances, in the form of a nickel-silicon carbide plating directly on the interior cylinder walls inside the engine block.

This, says Honda, means that cylinder sleeves (at least, on this engine) are a thing of the past. In addition to weight savings, Honda also says this helps to reduce friction, which it also points out when discussing its use of diamond-like coating (DLC) on the valve lifters in this engine design. (It is, of course, not clear what this may mean years down the line, if someone wants to rebuild this engine and possibly bore out these cylinders, but that's not a now-consideration, is it?)

Anyway, riders of the CBR500R Four also get three pre-programmed rider modes (Standard, Sport, and Urban), as well as two user-customizable options to select between three levels each of engine power, engine braking, and torque control. The CBR500R Four comes fitted with Honda's E-Clutch system directly from the factory as standard, and there is not currently an option to purchase this bike without it in Europe.

Other key bits to know about the 2027 Honda CBR500R Four: It uses a brand-new steel tube diamond-style chassis, and rides with a set of 41mm USD forks from KYB up front, along with a rigid aluminum swingarm/Pro-Link rear shock setup with five levels of preload adjustability. A set of clip-ons adds to the sporty ergonomics when you sit in the cockpit. A dual two-piston front brake caliper setup with 296mm front discs from Nissin stops you up front, while a single 240mm rear disc and single-piston caliper take over stopping duties in the rear. Dual channel ABS comes standard, and the cast aluminum 17-in wheels come shod in Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV rubber.

Curb weight is a claimed 189 kilograms, or just under 417 pounds. Seat height is an approachable 780mm, or around 30.7 inches. You get LED lighting all around, a 5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity (honestly, it's hard not to find something comparable anymore in 2026), and a USB-C socket to keep your device charged while you're out on the road.

Pricing and availability will vary by region across Europe, but Honda UK currently lists the price for the 2027 Honda CBR500R Four as £6,999, which works out to about US $9,371 at the time of writing. Be aware that pricing between markets is never a direct conversion, and also that Honda has not announced the CBR500R Four for other markets at this time. We'll be sure to keep you updated at RideApart as and when more information on other markets becomes available.

What do you think of the 2027 Honda CBR500R Four? If you're in Europe, do you plan on getting one? If you're elsewhere, do you want one? Sound off in the comments below, either way.
