Chasing the League | October 30, 2026

(WCMH) — After a busy Halloween with some of Europe’s biggest soccer rivalries on display, November will start with what should be a hectic Decision Day in the NWSL.

The NWSL’s regular season will conclude and at stake for Sunday’s games will be one postseason spot, the regular season title, and seeding for the eight-team playoff bracket.

A busy week in the world of soccer started on Monday with the Ballon d’Or ceremonies, where history was made by one of the best strikers in the world.

NWSL Decision Day: What is at stake

The NWSL’s final regular season day will have eight games starting simultaneously Sunday at 5 p.m. Eastern, which will feel like 6 p.m. with Daylight Saving Time kicking in.

7 of the eight playoff spots are assured and three teams will battle for the final postseason berth. The club with the best chance is the Seattle Reign, who books a playoff spot with just a win against the Orlando Pride.

The other two teams in contention are the North Carolina Courage and Denver Summit, who play each other in Cary, N.C. The Courage qualify with a win and a Seattle loss or draw while Denver books a spot with a win and a Seattle loss.

The NWSL Shield will also be decided Sunday with Gotham FC and San Diego Wave FC in the running. Gotham can win its first regular season crown with a win or draw against the Utah Royals while the Wave need a win over Bay FC and a Gotham loss to win its second NWSL shield.

Seeding is also at stake with none of the eight seeds sewn up entering Decision Day. The top four seeds in the playoff bracket will host next week’s quarterfinals.

Who won at the Ballon d’Or ceremony?

The best players in soccer convened in London on Monday for the Ballon d’Or ceremony where history was made. Bayern Munich and English striker Harry Kane was named the Ballon d’Or winner as the best player of the 2025-26 season. Kane scored 73 goals for club and country last season and became the first Englishman in 25 years to be named the best soccer player on the planet.

Spanish and London City Lionesses midfielder Alexia Putellas won her third career Ballon d’Or Feminin after leading Barcelona last season to another UEFA Women’s Champions League crown. Putellas and her Spain teammate Aitana Bonmati have each won the award three times since 2021 and will team up next summer for the defending world champions at the Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
