Brian Farinas made his debut for Barcelona on Saturday night, featuring as a right-back in a 6-1 win over Alaves at Camp Nou.
The 20-year-old has been with the first team all season after being promoted in September but has had to bide his team on the bench. However, injuries to Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen, Xavi Espart and Jules Kounde opened the door to a debut at right-back.
Farinas enjoyed a good night at Camp Nou and is now hoping for more chances in Hansi Flick’s first team.
“Very happy for my debut and the victory with the club of my life Barcelona, thanks to everyone who has supported me, I will continue working to get more opportunities,” he posted on Instagram afterwards.
The 20-year-old also received encouragement from Lamine Yamal after his first appearance for the senior side. “You deserve it lil bro,” was the response from his team-mate to his post.
Hansi Flick also praised Farinas for his performance, saying he deserved to play.
“I am happy for him. He deserved these minutes, this game. He is focused, top in training, very professional. This is what we want from him and the players,” he told reporters.
Barcelona may have to cope without their injured defenders again for next week’s games against Aston Villa and Atletico, meaning Farinas will be hoping for more minutes in what’s a big week for the club.
