Harry Kane crowned 2026 Ballon d’Or winner after standout Bayern and England season

Harry Kane has won the 2026 Ballon d’Or, claiming the most prestigious individual prize in football for the first time in his career.

The England striker was rewarded after a highly successful season with Bayern Munich and the national team, finishing ahead of Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe in the voting.

Kane had been regarded as one of the leading contenders for the award alongside the Spanish youngster and France forward, but it was the Bayern Munich captain who ultimately secured the honour.

His performances were recognised both for their consistency and for the influence he had on his team’s play during a campaign that brought significant achievements at club and international level.

With Bayern Munich, Kane helped the club win the German league title and reach the semi-finals of the Champions League. He also played a part in England’s World Cup campaign, further strengthening his standing among the leading forwards of his generation.

The award represents a major landmark for a player who had long been considered one of the world’s best strikers without having won the Ballon d’Or. His first triumph acknowledges his regular goalscoring, his efficiency in front of goal and his ability to make an impact in important matches.

Yamal’s rise continues

Lamine Yamal finished second, confirming his emergence as one of the most prominent figures in world football. The young Spain international was one of Kane’s main challengers for the prize and secured a place on the podium.

Kylian Mbappe completed the top three. The France forward remains among the leading contenders for individual honours after another season at the highest level.

Achraf Hakimi finished 13th in the 2026 Ballon d’Or rankings after an exceptional season, while Sadio Mane was placed 29th.

For Kane, the victory adds a major personal achievement to his honours and marks a significant turning point in his career. After years competing at the highest level, the England captain has now received the individual recognition that had previously eluded him.

The 2026 award crowns a season in which his contribution helped Bayern Munich secure the German title and progress deep into the Champions League, while his involvement with England at the World Cup reinforced his importance on the international stage.
