BAYERN MUNICH boss Vincent Kompany was rushed to hospital after collapsing at the club’s training ground.
According to Bild, Kompany, 40, has been suffering from a viral infection, leaving him with difficulty climbing stairs.
The same source claims the infection has caused the Belgian tactician problems with an old scar tissue.
According to Sky Sports, the Manchester City legend then fell ill during today’s training session.
A rescue helicopter initially landed in the German champions’ Sabener Strasse base to pick Kompany up.
But the ex-Burnley boss was ultimately taken to the emergency room of a hospital in Munich by an ambulance.
Bayern issued the following statement: “Vincent Kompany had to receive medical attention on Friday after collapsing during a training session of FC Bayern’s second team.
“The first-team head coach had been watching the second team’s training session. Kompany is undergoing thorough examinations in hospital and will remain under medical supervision.
“Until further notice, his coaching staff will take charge of training and matchday operations.”
Kompany had been dealing with pain in his legs caused by the virus since last week and showed symptoms on Saturday when Bayern thrashed RB Leipzig 6-1 at the Allianz Arena.
The ex-Anderlecht boss had to lie down on a sofa that was placed in his cabin during half-time and after full-time before leaving post-game interviews to his assistants.
The legendary defender was absent from training on Monday as he visited doctors.
The next day, the Premier League icon was able to complete the final training session before the crunch Champions League clash against Arsenal, which saw him squaring off against his former Man City coach Mikel Arteta.
But Kompany was replaced by assistant Aaron Danks during the pre-match presser ahead of Wednesday’s 2-2 draw in Munich.
The former centre-back, though, attended the press conference after the Champions League encounter and shared some details on his condition.
Kompany said: “As a coach, you always want to do everything and do everything.
“I got a pretty juicy virus last week, then of course I didn’t listen to my body and then the body eventually said: Now stop it!”
Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl insists Kompany will get all the time he needs to regain full fitness.
Eberl said: “Vincent Kompany’s health is our top priority. We at FC Bayern will do everything we can to ensure that he recovers quickly.
“Vinnie will receive all the necessary medical care and support, as well as all the time he needs. His coaching staff, whom we trust completely, will take over his duties. All of us at FC Bayern wish Vinnie a speedy recovery.”
