Honda Just Turned The Passport Into A 1,300-HP Baja Monster

When you think of a Honda Passport, you probably picture a practical SUV that's perfectly happy tackling the occasional dirt trail. Well, Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) has just unveiled a Passport that takes the whole off-road adventure thing to a completely different level.

Meet the Honda Passport Baja Spec, a wild Trophy Truck packing over 1,300 horsepower and enough racing technology to make most supercars jealous. It's also a hybrid, although saving fuel clearly isn't the main priority here.

Developed by Honda Racing Corporation USA alongside Mason Motorsports, this monster is designed to compete in the top Trophy Truck class of the SCORE World Desert Championship. Honda says it will be the first hybrid-powered vehicle to enter the category.

Underneath its Passport-inspired bodywork sits a purpose-built, mid-engine racing machine with all-wheel drive and enormous off-road tires. In other words, don't expect to find much of your neighbor's Passport underneath that carbon-fiber shell.

The real madness begins behind the cabin, where Honda has installed a 2.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6 based on the engine used in Acura's ARX-06 endurance racer. Paired with a custom 800-volt hybrid system, it produces over 1,300 horsepower.

That's even more power than the massive naturally aspirated 9.0-liter V8s found in today's top Trophy Trucks. The hybrid system also uses Formula 1-inspired battery cells housed in a lightweight carbon-fiber case.

Power is sent to all four wheels through a specially developed five-speed transmission and an unusual drivetrain featuring portal gearing at the front wheels. Honda has also fitted adaptive traction control, brake-by-wire technology, and AI-assisted power deployment.

Built To Survive Baja's Brutal Terrain

The Passport Baja Spec rides on Mason Motorsports' Gen 2 all-wheel-drive chassis, featuring long-travel suspension with dual FOX racing shocks at each corner. Huge Toyo tires provide the grip, while the carbon-fiber bodywork has been aerodynamically optimized for high-speed desert racing.

There's even a massive 145-gallon fuel cell positioned to help maintain consistent weight distribution. Deep aerodynamic channels and carefully positioned cooling components show just how seriously Honda is taking this project.

Honda Wants An Overall Baja 1000 Victory

Two-time Baja 1000 winner Bryce Menzies will drive the truck, with Honda setting its sights on an overall victory at the legendary desert race. Honda already has an impressive Baja racing history, including 22 overall Baja 1000 victories on motorcycles.

Before any racing begins, the Passport Baja Spec will make its public debut at the 2026 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, running November 3–6. Its first scheduled competition is the Baja 500 in June 2027.

Of course, this isn't a preview of a production Passport, and there's no suggestion that Honda plans to sell anything remotely like it. Still, if this 1,300-horsepower beast doesn't make you want to watch desert racing, we're not sure what will.
