Riffa Beat Qatar SC 4-1 in Gulf Club Champions League as Ali Hassan Scores Twice

Bahraini side claim first Group B victory with four goals at Bahrain National Stadium to move into second place

Riffa secured their first victory of the 2026-27 GFF Gulf Club Champions League yesterday, defeating Qatar Sports Club 4-1 at Bahrain National Stadium after Ali Hassan struck twice in a five-goal contest.

The kingdom's sole representatives made a flying start, taking the lead just 19 seconds after kick-off before recovering from Qatar SC's equaliser to score three unanswered goals and claim their first points in Group B.

Kamil Al Aswad capitalised on a misplaced pass from goalkeeper Satta Al Abbasi and found Hassan inside the penalty area, where the captain calmly slotted into the bottom corner.

Qatar SC responded in the 11th minute through their own skipper, Sebastian Soria. A set-piece delivery was headed across the area before Yasen Lafrid's touch found the Uruguayan striker, who finished from close range under pressure.

Riffa regained the advantage in the 39th minute when Hassan completed his brace with a first-time curling effort into the bottom corner.

Al Aswad was again at the heart of the move, finding Sayed Redha Isa on the left side of the area before the latter laid the ball back to Hassan just outside the box.

Coached by Kuwaiti Mohamed Mashaan, the Sky Blues extended their lead shortly after the restart through Tayeb Meziani.

Al Aswad broke into the right side of the penalty area and sent a deflected pass toward Meziani, who finished with the goalkeeper drawn out of position.

The hosts added a fourth in the 55th minute when Brazilian substitute Wellington Moreira guided a first-time finish into the bottom corner after Meziani surged into the left side of the box and squared the ball.

For Riffa, it was a welcome turnaround after their opening 3-0 defeat to UAE side Al Nasr in Dubai.

The win lifted the Bahrainis into second place in Group B with three points from two matches, level with leaders Al Nasr, who have played once and hold a superior goal difference.

Iraq's Al Zawraa sit third with one point from one match, while Qatar SC are bottom with one point from two fixtures.

Riffa will look to build on their victory when they travel to Baghdad to face Al Zawraa on November 3 in their third group-stage fixture.
