SOPHIE Cunningham has given an honest assessment of Angel Reese during the WNBA Finals.
The Indiana Fever star is watching from home, but she is keeping a close eye on how the Atlanta Dream star is performing.
On Wednesday, the Dream defeated the Golden State Valkyries 2-1 in Game 3 of the WNBA Finals.
And Reese put in a dominant performance, finishing with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists.
She also drained two three-pointers, a new addition to her game.
And Sophie Cunningham addressed this development on her podcast.
“I think that’s why it’s a unique time for [Smesko] to bring the team around and have her make two in a row,” Cunningham said.
“And so I’m not going to lie, I thought it was kind of weird. I was like, ‘This isn’t the time to be working on a new craft. That’s an offseason thing, or maybe an early in-season thing.’”
While Cunningham questioned the timing of Reese’s newfound craft, she also shared how it can be a big asset for the star in the future.
“But her confidence is going to be the game changer,” Cunningham added.
“And if she can knock down, like I said, even just one of them, two, three, whatever, that’s going to bring her confidence up. That’s going to bring her team’s confidence up.
“Maybe she kills in the lane. Maybe that hypes her up to play even better defense than what she’s been playing. And so I do like what it does mentally for her and the team. So I’ll leave it at that.”
The Dream are now two wins away from becoming WNBA Champions.
Game 4 is on Sunday and the Dream will have home-court advantage before returning to the Bay area on Monday night.
