Manchester United are already sounding out potential options if they need to sack Michael Carrick in the coming weeks, although he is expected to be in charge when the club host Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Man United had already made a hugely disappointing start to the season under Carrick after such an impressive run of form when he was in interim charge, but Wednesday night was a new low point.
The Red Devils were minutes away from a 4-0 defeat to the Champions League new-boys, before Joshua Zirkzee's consolation goal in injury time.
United have been nowhere near where they were in the second half of last season in terms of performances and results, and they have now won just two of their 11 matches in all competitions this term.
With players beginning to criticise people at the club publicly after outbursts from Lisandro Martinez and Bruno Fernandes in recent weeks, it is clear that not all is well at Old Trafford.
Carrick is set to host his pre-match press conference on Friday for the visit of the Cherries at the weekend, which would suggest that he will be in the dugout as things stand.
What is clear though is that a big improvement is required moving forward, starting against Marco Rose's men.
According to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs, United have already sounded out Julian Nagelsmann for the role in case a change does need to be made in the near future.
The 39-year-old is available now after leaving his job as Germany manager in the summer, and the former Bayern Munich boss has his admirers among United's hierarchy.
Nagelsmann is said to be open to taking the job at United if it was offered to him.
Antonio Conte is another out-of-work manager keen on the United job, but Nagelsmann would be a better fit than the former Chelsea boss for the job.
Conte has won the Premier League title with the Blues and multiple Serie A titles, and has proven that he is a winner, but he has also shown that he is a volatile character that isn't afraid to speak out against the club's hierarchy.
He proved that at Tottenham and that might not be what United need right now, especially after recent criticism of the board and manager from Martinez and Fernandes.
Nagelsmann does feel like more of a long-term, project appointment, and when you look at what the likes of Fabian Hurzeler, Mikel Arteta and Andoni Iraola have achieved in recent seasons, it wouldn't be the worst shout.
