Alex Mwakideu Amazed by Raila Odinga International Stadium’s Development

Media personality Alex Mwakideu has expressed amazement at the development of the Raila Odinga International Stadium, describing the facility as a major milestone he never expected to witness in Kenya.

In a post shared on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Mwakideu reflected on the country’s progress, saying the scale of the stadium had surpassed his expectations.

“Nilikuja kuamini sasa kama itafika hapa naweza hivi Kenya. Sijaona… sijawahi kuona,” Mwakideu said, explaining that he had previously expected Kenya to continue relying on existing stadiums.

He was particularly impressed by the facility’s appearance at night, praising its lighting and reported seating capacity of 60,000.

“Kwanza ikiwashwa mataa usiku inakaa vizuri… 60,000 capacity. Oh, my God,” he said.

‘I have never seen this’

Mwakideu said the stadium represented a level of construction and development he had not witnessed in Kenya before.

“Ni kitu ambayo nimekuwa nikiiona ikifanyika tangu nilivyozaliwa huku Kenya, sijawahi kuona hivi,” he said, adding that he did not believe another region in the country had achieved a similar level of development.

He also pointed to the changing national conversation, noting that Kenyans were increasingly discussing the construction of major sporting facilities.

“We are speaking about stadiums now… we are talking about constructions of a stadium,” he said.

Mwakideu weighs in on football as entertainment

The conversation also turned to the entertainment expected around the stadium’s opening, with Mwakideu referring to claims involving Harry Kane, Bayern Munich and Ajax Amsterdam.

He challenged the distinction between sporting events and other forms of live entertainment, comparing a football match to a music concert.

“If I tell you that this is like bringing in music artiste to perform music for music fans, would you not say that is entertainment?” he asked.

Another speaker argued that a football match provided only “90 minutes” of entertainment, prompting Mwakideu to question why the duration should diminish its value as a live experience.

His remarks reflected his enthusiasm for the stadium’s development and the prospect of Kenya hosting major sporting events, while also highlighting the debate over football’s place in the wider entertainment industry.
