Nigerian international Zadok Yohanna was not involved as Brighton & Hove Albion secured a 1-0 victory over Getafe in Thursday’s UEFA Conference League fixture.
Yohanna, who joined Brighton & Hove Albion during the summer transfer window, is still waiting to make his first appearance in European competition this season.
Fabian Hurzeler’s team enjoyed control of the match in Spain, recording more than 60% possession and producing the more dangerous chances against Jose Bordalas’s side.
Getafe defended with a disciplined low block and made it difficult for Brighton to find an opening. However, the visitors eventually broke through in the 64th minute after a move started by Pascal Groß.
Joao Costinha met the attack with a cushioned header across the face of goal, allowing Malick Yalcouye to arrive and finish from close range.
Brighton had opportunities to make the result more comfortable. Jaouen Hadjam hit the woodwork twice, while substitute Ibrahim Osman missed a late chance to add a second.
Getafe also threatened, but Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen played a key role in securing the clean sheet. The Dutchman made four important saves to deny Ivan Azon and preserve the visitors’ narrow advantage.
The result moves Brighton into the top five of the UEFA Conference League standings, with seven points from their opening three matches.
It also extends the club’s unbeaten run in European competition.
