Mounir Nasraoui has clarified the confusion surrounding his son's name, explaining why the Barcelona sensation should not simply be addressed as Yamal.

Lamine Yamal's Father Reveals 'The Barcelona Star' Real Surname And Correct Name

Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal has become one of football’s most recognisable young talents, but his full name has apparently been misunderstood by fans and media.

His father, Mounir Nasraoui, has stepped forward to explain the confusion, revealing that Yamal is not actually his son’s surname.

According to Nasraoui, as reported by Goal, Lamine Yamal is a compound first name, while the teenager’s actual surname is Nasraoui Ebana.

The clarification has attracted attention because supporters and journalists regularly refer to the Barcelona forward simply as Yamal.

Speaking during a live broadcast, his father explained why people should understand the distinction when addressing his son.

Nasraoui Explains The Meaning Behind His Son’s Name

“I’m going to tell you something, guys,” Nasraoui said. “His name is Lamine Yamal, but Yamal is not his surname. His surname is Nasraoui Ebana.

I want everyone to understand that. So, don’t get confused.

“Lamine Yamal is his name. That’s why his father tells him, ‘Lamine Yamal, through the good times and the bad, my boy.’

And remember one thing: you will never be at the top as long as Lamine Yamal is on the pitch.”

The player previously addressed the issue during an interview with Mundo Deportivo when he was 16.

“My name is Lamine Yamal, but if you want to shorten it, then Lamine,” he explained.

The clarification comes during another impressive period for the Barcelona youngster, who recently finished third in the 2026 Ballon d’Or voting.

Wearing Barcelona’s iconic number 10 shirt, Yamal has reportedly registered 12 goals and 11 assists this season, continuing to establish himself among football’s leading talents.
