Daniel Farke has outlined three things that Jean-Matteo Bahoya must do to see his Leeds United game time increase.
Joining the West Yorkshire club on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt on deadline day, the French youngster has so far only made two Premier League appearances for his new club.
Firstly coming off the bench with one minute to spare in September's 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace, Bahoya then played the final four minutes of the 2-1 defeat at Arsenal earlier this month.
Since then, he has remained an unused substitute for the draws against Manchester United and Sunderland.
Leeds fans are clearly desperate to see more of the 21-year-old, ideally starting with Saturday's away fixture at Bournemouth.
In order for that to be the case in the weeks ahead, Farke, who went into a long monologue on his player in his press conference on Thursday, stated that Bahoya needs to add physicality to his game, improve on his decision-making and also work on his finishing.
"I would like to know why all this hype around Jean-Matteo," explained the German (via Yorkshire Post). "I do my weekly shopping in the local supermarkets and honestly the last few weeks every time the topic is Jean-Matteo. Last time an older guy said, 'Daniel bring this young French winger on he's outstanding'.
"I said, 'Ah you know him?'
"'No I don't know him.'
"'Where have you seen him then?
"'I haven't seen him, I've just heard it.'
"I like it because I love Jean-Matteo and I like it when the outside world believes in my players and want to see them.
"But the problem is a bit the perception of this story and if we have sold him in the wrong way on our social media that we have signed the new Raphinha or whatever."
He added: "If you make too much hype around a young lad like Jean-Matteo this can't be a success in the end.
"At the moment in every press conference I'm asked about him. Before the game can he start, could he have started after the game?
"It's not healthy for him. It's not healthy for my relationship with him. It's not healthy for his standing within the group.
"I love Jean-Matteo, I love to work with him, but we have to keep a bit in mind what we expect sometimes. We don't do a favour to this young lad if we overload them with expectations.
"We signed him on the last day of this transfer window. We were trying to sign a player who can make an immediate impact.
"In the end the club decided we can't spend that much money on this position and we were a bit short.
"Jean-Matteo was always on our list because he's full of potential for the mid-term, for the long-term, for the future.
"He was sitting on the bench in Frankfurt at the end of last season and at the beginning of the season and Frankfurt probably didn't expect him to make a big impact this season because otherwise they would have kept him.
"He needs to add a bit of physicality to his game. He needs to improve his decision-making, his finishing. We want to do this.
"And if during the season he improves, he can develop into a player who can compete for minutes and perhaps even compete for a place in the starting line-up.
"If this happens then we have a bargain because normally for a winger at Premier League level you spend double-figure millions of pounds. We have spent a small loan fee.
"But if we expect him immediately to make a huge impact and to be the difference-maker at this level for us, sorry, but this has nothing to do with reality.
"I've worked in the Bundesliga. It's easier to make an impact at Bundesliga level in comparison to the best league in the world.
"We can't expect to sign a young player from the bench from a Bundesliga club and him to have an immediate impact for a club sitting in position seven in the Premier League, and be one of our main men.
"If we sell this story further, it's not good for him. What he needs to do is to train with consistency and to improve the aspects I spoke about and he's exactly doing this. He works unbelievably hard in order to do this.
"But this will never happen if he thinks I'm already on Raphinha's level. No chance.
"I want to give this project a chance but for that we have to be patient with them."
"He needs to add a bit of physicality to his game. He needs to improve his decision-making, his finishing. We want to do this. And if during the season he improves, he can develop into a player who can compete for minutes and perhaps even compete for a place in the starting line-up. We have spent a small loan fee." - Daniel Farke on Jean-Matteo Bahoya
Leeds United are in an excellent position in the Premier League table as they sit in seventh place after eight games of the campaign.
One criticism would be that they have drawn too many games, with five draws from their fixtures and only two wins on the board.
They do have some tough fixtures coming up in the weeks ahead, though, facing Bournemouth and Chelsea away either side of a home fixture against Tottenham.
Home games against Coventry, Ipswich Town and Fulham look inviting prior to Christmas and the same goes for an away day at Hull City.
If indeed Bahoya works on those three things that Farke mentioned in his pre-match press conference, an increase in pitch time could potentially come his way.
