Tottenham Hotspur are one of a whole host of clubs around Europe who have set their sights on a versatile Juventus defender.
Spurs did not replace Djed Spence with another right-back in the summer, with Roberto De Zerbi deciding to use Archie Gray as Pedro Porro’s backup at right-back.
It remains to be seen if the Italian will change his mind in January, and he may also be presented with a new problem. Porro is now openly flirting with a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona, even though he only signed a new five-year deal with the North London club in the summer.
He said: “Obviously, I’d love to return to Spain someday. It’s my country, and I like the league. Right now, it would be very unfair to talk about anything other than my club because I’m under contract, but obviously, I’d love to go back to Spain; it’s a big dream of mine.”
When asked whether he would suit Real Madrid or Barca better, he said: “I don’t know. I’ll let people decide. I consider myself a player who can adapt to any situation.”
That may be the catalyst for the Lilywhites’ interest in an experienced Serie A full-back.
According to 4-4-2, Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso is on the radar of Spurs and several other English clubs, who have been impressed by his impact on both ends of the pitch.
The 26-year-old is a two-footed player, capable of operating at either right-back or left-back, and talent spotters have been impressed by his ability to make the right decisions under pressure and his tackling.
As a result, Tottenham have been joined in the race for Cambiaso by Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea, while there is some interest within Serie A from Inter Milan and Napoli.
The report adds that Arsenal and Manchester City are the two clubs showing the most interest in the Italy international, as they ‘closely monitor’ his performances in the lead-up to the January window.
4-4-2 also reveal that Barcelona are eyeing the Juve star as a potential replacement for Alejandro Balde, and are preparing an offer of around €20m to €25m (£16.7m-£21m) for the defender.
The Catalan club could even contemplate a swap deal for Cambiaso, but their proposal is expected to fall short of the Bianconeri’s demands.
It is asserted that the Old Lady would demand an offer of €30m to €40m (£25m-£33.4m) to sell the Italy international in January.
