Aston Villa Issue Official Statement on Unai Emery’s Future Amid Manchester United Interest

According to a report by Manchesterevening News on Wednesday November 4, 2026, Aston Villa have released an official statement concerning Unai Emery’s future amid growing interest from Manchester United, who reportedly consider the Spaniard their preferred candidate to replace Michael Carrick.

Emery has attracted considerable admiration following his impressive work at Villa Park, where he has transformed the club since arriving in October 2022.

The experienced manager boasts an outstanding European record, having won three consecutive Europa League titles with Sevilla before claiming another with Villarreal and securing a fifth triumph with Aston Villa in May 2026.

His managerial achievements also include winning Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain and guiding Valencia to three successive third-place finishes in the Spanish top flight.

Renowned for his detailed preparation, tactical organisation and effective counterattacking approach, Emery possesses several qualities Manchester United believe could help restore their competitiveness.

However, Carrick's position has received temporary relief following United's remarkable 3-2 Champions League comeback victory against AS Roma on Tuesday.

Bruno Fernandes inspired the recovery before Matheus Cunha scored twice, bringing an end to United's disappointing nine-match winless run across competitions.

Nevertheless, Manchester United remain 17th in the Premier League standings, with reports suggesting the club could reassess Carrick's position during November's international break.

Emery previously emerged as the leading candidate on United's managerial shortlist, following information shared by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano. However, his existing contract, which runs until 2029, represents a significant obstacle.

Aston Villa have now provided another indication that they intend to retain their manager for the foreseeable future.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, November 4, the club confirmed that chairman Nassef Sawiris had held discussions with Emery, president of football operations Roberto Olabe and director Damian Vidagany.

The meeting reportedly established a shared commitment to continuing Villa's development under Emery's leadership beyond 2029.

The club also reaffirmed its ambition to challenge for major trophies while maintaining sustainable progress and long-term sporting success.

Although no new contract has been officially announced, Villa's statement demonstrates their confidence in Emery and their determination to build a successful future with him.

The development represents another setback for Manchester United, who could struggle to convince the Spaniard to leave Villa Park.

Interestingly, Emery's Aston Villa are scheduled to visit Old Trafford on Sunday, creating an additional storyline ahead of their important Premier League meeting.
