Son Of Super Eagles US '94 Star Available To Represent Nigeria After Club Debut

Landon Emenalo, the son of former Super Eagles defender Michael Emenalo, remains eligible to represent Nigeria at senior international level despite making his professional debut for Scottish club Celtic.

According to OwnGoalNigeria, the 18-year-old has previously represented the United States and England at youth level but is still eligible to switch allegiance to Nigeria's senior national team.

Sources close to the family disclosed that Landon is interested in following his father's footsteps by representing the Super Eagles. However, the young defender has yet to make a final decision regarding his international future.

Born in the United States and raised in England, Landon is currently spending the 2026/27 season on loan at Celtic from Chelsea. He joined the Scottish Premiership club during the summer transfer window to gain valuable first-team experience.

The teenager made his professional debut during Celtic's emphatic 7-1 victory over Hearts, coming on as a second-half substitute and playing the final 30 minutes of the encounter.

The appearance represents a significant milestone in his young career as he aims to establish himself in Celtic's first team.

Landon primarily plays as a left-back, the same position his father previously occupied, but he is also capable of featuring at centre-back and in midfield.

Despite remaining eligible to represent Nigeria, the defender is not expected to make an immediate decision on his international future, as his current priority is developing his career at club level.

Emenalo joined Celtic on September 2, 2026, on a season-long loan arrangement for the 2026/27 campaign. The Scottish club described him as a versatile player capable of operating across all four defensive positions and in midfield.

Before moving to Glasgow, the youngster was a regular member of Chelsea's Under-21 side during the previous season.

On October 13, Celtic announced that Emenalo had completed his rehabilitation from an injury at Chelsea and had joined the club's first-team squad in Glasgow.

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has also praised the young defender, pointing to his athletic ability and calmness in possession.

Meanwhile, his father, Michael Emenalo, was a member of Nigeria's squad that qualified for the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States, where the Super Eagles advanced to the Round of 16.

Following his retirement from professional football, Michael moved into football administration and currently serves as Chelsea's technical director.
