Super Falcons Get $100,000 Each As Tinubu Fulfils WAFCON Promise

According to Punch, published on November 2, 2026, Nigeria’s Super Falcons have received the naira equivalent of $100,000 each as President Bola Tinubu fulfils his financial promise following their WAFCON victory.

The National Sports Commission confirmed the payment, stating that members of the team’s coaching crew and other officials also received the equivalent of $50,000 each. The development completes the cash component of the reward package announced by the President after Nigeria secured its 10th continental title.

Tinubu made the promise during a presidential reception for the team in Abuja on July 28, 2025. Apart from the financial reward, each player and member of the technical crew was also promised a three-bedroom apartment and the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger.

The players have since received their apartment title documents and certificates confirming their national honours. The latest payment therefore fulfils the remaining financial part of the commitment made to the team.

The Super Falcons earned the reward after defeating hosts Morocco 3-2 in the WAFCON final in Rabat in July 2025. Nigeria had fallen two goals behind before producing a remarkable second-half comeback to secure the victory and extend its record as the competition’s most successful nation.

Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, expressed appreciation to Tinubu for honouring his commitment. He described the payment as an important recognition of the players’ achievement and contribution to Nigerian sports.

The commission also acknowledged the support of the Ministries of Finance, Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, and Housing and Urban Development in completing the reward package.

The development follows a similar arrangement for D’Tigress, Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team. Their players received the naira equivalent of $100,000 each in September 2026 after winning the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket, while their officials received $50,000 each.

The latest payment marks the completion of the financial reward promised to the Super Falcons for their continental success.
