Super Eagles striker sacrifices an opportunity to increase goal tally

According to a post shared by Le Marca Sports on its official X account on Friday, October 30, 2026, Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen attracted attention for his generous gesture during Galatasaray's 4-0 victory over Konyaspor in the Turkish Süper Lig.

The Super Eagles forward reportedly allowed teammate Rafael Leão to take a penalty rather than take the opportunity himself and potentially increase his personal goal tally.

Osimhen had already made an important contribution to the encounter at the Medaş Konya Büyükşehir Stadium, opening the scoring for Galatasaray in the 12th minute.

The Nigerian striker connected with a well-delivered free kick from Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Sara, rising above the Konyaspor defenders to direct a powerful header into the net.

Galatasaray continued to dominate the contest, with Yunus Akgün doubling their advantage in the 28th minute. Russian midfielder Aleksey Batrakov then extended the visitors' lead by scoring the third goal shortly after the restart in the 49th minute.

Another opportunity arrived six minutes later when Konyaspor defender Rayyan Baniya brought down Leão inside the penalty area. Following a review by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), referee Cihan Aydın awarded Galatasaray a spot-kick.

With Osimhen having already scored, the Nigerian forward reportedly had the opportunity to take responsibility for the penalty and add another goal to his season's record.

However, he chose to give Leão the chance to score instead.

The Portuguese attacker stepped forward and successfully converted the penalty, sending the goalkeeper in the opposite direction to complete Galatasaray's 4-0 victory.

The goal was particularly important for Leão because it marked his first since joining the Istanbul-based club.

Osimhen's decision attracted attention because he prioritised giving his teammate an opportunity to open his scoring account rather than pursuing another personal goal.

The incident added another talking point to Galatasaray's convincing performance, with Osimhen contributing an early goal before making a gesture that helped his teammate celebrate an important milestone.
